Artist’s Reflection
The Beauty of Keeping Things Simple
Keep It Simple Mixed Media is based off my piece Keep It Simple; however, with this piece I used color and simple paintings of flowers for a more fun and playful way of expressing the same point-Keep It Simple.
The Art Piece
A Balance of Realism and Playful Design
The portrait blends detailed realism with flat color, allowing the face, hair, chain, and select textures to stand apart from the simplified surrounding forms.
The bright background, outlined flowers, and bold shapes give the piece a sense of youthful energy while still supporting the central idea: simplicity can be expressive, intentional, and visually powerful.

Finding Clarity Through Color and Restraint
Keep It Simple Mixed Media expands on Giselle V. Brown’s original charcoal concept by bringing color, contrast, and graphic simplicity into the work. Created at age 16, the piece combines realistic portraiture with bold areas of color and clean linework, reflecting the idea of not overcomplicating life and finding beauty in moments of simplicity.
